August 14th 2021

Announcements:

       NEXT Steering Committee Meeting - falls on Labor Day - hold it Tuesday, Sept 7

       Next Garden General Membership meeting: Saturday, September 11 at 9am

       2 Open plots: plots 1 and 19 - do you have a neighbor that might be interested in a plot?

Big picture

            -transition team

            -January: review mission, and previous year’s activities

            -August: big picture, how we connect to other projects happening

                        -NACDI, Phillips lot

            -September: recommend next year’s events and programs

                        -purpose and goals of each event and how achieve mission with events

            -October: Harvest Party

            -November: programs and events

            -December: budget and plan meeting dates

Fawn: native plantings, sweet grass, three sisters, kids will come back in person August 10, coming from Bloomington and Lake building on bus or van. Interested in helping plan Harvest Party

 

Harvest Party: 3rd Saturday of October

            -idea of a progressive party, travel between gardens

            -Fawn’s program has full kitchen, fully biodegradable, single serve

                        -can use kitchen

                        -has event budget if indigenous food - buy containers and any meat

            -Fawn and Steve will discuss and come back to share ideas

Pros and cons: trash service

            -currently empty less than once a week

            -if we go with city:

          The City will empty the litter container once a week for $12 a month.

          The City will empty the litter container twice a week for $24 a month.

          The City will empty the litter container three times a week for $36 a month.

-we decided to wait and hear about whether we get tax exemption

 

Syringe box. Clarifying questions, discussion,

MOTION: the garden committee moves to go forward with syringe disposal boxes and proceed to ask surrounding block about concerns and use as an educational opportunity in partnership with Southside Harm Reduction, ES, StS, Approved

       Fawn would like to hold a narcan training and harm reduction training

       Ask for info sheet from city and check that still have available
